Music Education (B.A.) – Pop
Course of study
Structure of the program
Even before starting your studies, you choose an artistic major, which then determines your course of study.
- Pop – artistic major: instrumental/producing
- Pop – artistic major: voice
Throughout all 4 years, you receive 2 hours of lessons in your major subject every week! (1.5 hours with voice as major)
In instrumental and producing, this is split into 60 minutes of one-on-one lessons and 60 minutes of lessons in small groups.
In addition, for 2 years you receive 30 minutes of lessons per week in a minor instrument or minor voice.
In year 3, you choose a further instrument or voice, in which you receive another year of 30-minute one-on-one lessons.
In year 4, you can be coached individually by external professionals.
Throughout your studies, you work very intensively in your own bands and in university bands.
The supplementary subjects – such as pop music history, pedagogy, musicology, songwriting, audio and media technology, ear training and music theory, to name just a few – are taken according to the course of study plan.
Your studies conclude with a bachelor's thesis, a music education project and your own final concert.

The Pop program at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has long been considered one of the best places for young singers and singer-songwriters in the German-speaking world. Central aspects of the training are informal, collective and playful approaches to music and communication with and through the voice, the most direct of all instruments. Your individual sound and the development of your own “performance persona” are a particular focus, alongside craft skills, aspects of self-professionalization and support for your individual artistic expression.
