Management of Operational Systems – Business Administration (B.A.), Campus Lingen (Ems)

Bachelor of Arts

Features of the degree program Management of Operational Systems

The degree program Management of Operational Systems is especially designed for prospective students that already completed an apprenticeship and want to complement their practical experiences with theoretical but simultaneously application-oriented studies. The study concept is particularly suited for employees since students only spend one day during the week at university, besides Saturdays. Therefore, lengthy absences from work can be avoided and the acceptance of long-term duties or tasks at the workplace is not at risk. The bachelor’s program Management of Operational Systems comprises two fields of studies, i.e. Business Administration (B.A.) and Industrial Engineering and Management (B.Eng.), so that two different degrees can be received in one single degree program. The integration of both fields of study aims at fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and mutual understanding of different specializations already during the course of the studies.

30 modules in total are being taught across both study fields so that perspectives of the respective opposite field can be reenacted through project work, discussions and continuous exchange. Students of both study fields become experts for intersection points of those fields along with gaining the ability to become acquainted more easily with interdisciplinary processes at work. In addition, the concept supports and encourages the development of new interests, since students gain insight into topics that would have been missed out on in the course of mere business or engineering studies. Therefore, a switch between study fields up until the third semester is possible without time loss, so that new paths of qualifications are facilitated. If desired, a double degree can be acquired as well – further information regarding the prerequisites are available at the Office of Students and Company Support.

Features of the study field Business Administration of the degree program Management of Operational Systems

Students enrolled in the study field Business Administration get acquainted with a numerous amount of commercial functions, starting with basics of accounting as well as legal and fiscal frameworks up to the analysis and organization of business-related processes. Due to the cross-sectoral and international orientation of the modules as well as the professional scope of contents, a wide range of possible fields of operation are offered to students.

While the elementary studies provide knowledge on a global understanding of all business related procedures and processes as well as management-techniques for planning and steering those, in semesters seven and eight topics are linked to the individual interests of the students. The choice between several specializations and complementary modules allow students to build an individual profile, which present also a primary professional specialization. Additionally, the work in interdisciplinary teams and continuous linkage between subjects and the students own professional occupation leads to further enhancement of social and professional competences.
