Music Education – Pop (B.A.)
Bachelor of Arts
Shaping the pop music of tomorrow
Pop music is a constantly changing style of music that, like hardly any other genre, picks up and reflects the cultural and social currents of its time. It thrives on the constant development of musical styles, the fusion of different influences and the creative engagement with new technologies and forms of expression. This dynamic interplay makes the professional field for pop musicians and music educators particularly varied and challenging.
The training in pop music and music education at the IfM prepares students to master these challenges with artistic excellence, stylistic openness and pedagogical competence. In addition to individual musical development, the focus is on the ability to combine different genres, develop independent artistic concepts and understand pop music as a multifaceted art form.
The aim of the training is to produce musicians and music educators who not only continuously develop their artistic and didactic skills but also actively help shape change in the music landscape. As singers, instrumentalists, songwriters, producers and teachers, they combine musical practice with theoretical knowledge and teaching – and help ensure that pop music remains a lively, innovative and significant means of expression in our society in the future.

Career prospects
Pop musicians work in a varied and dynamic professional field. They are active as live and studio musicians, write and produce their own music or work as composers and songwriters for other artists. They also work as instrumentalists or singers in bands, orchestras, studios or on tour. Pop musicians also find a wide range of employment opportunities in music production, media, advertising, radio, film and television.
The Music Education – Pop program adds an educational dimension to this field of activity: graduates work as voice teachers, instrumental teachers or ensemble leaders at music schools, general schools, universities or in the independent music scene. They teach individually or in groups, lead choirs, bands and ensembles or design music education projects in social and cultural contexts.
The job market for pop musicians and music educators has changed significantly in recent years. The digital music landscape and the development of new distribution channels open up numerous opportunities but also place high demands on flexibility and initiative. In addition to artistic and pedagogical skills, entrepreneurial thinking, media skills and the ability to market oneself are essential, and these are also taught at the IfM Osnabrück.
Pop musicians and music educators are increasingly shaping their own working environment: they found their own music schools or educational initiatives, develop online teaching formats, launch crowdfunding campaigns or work across disciplines with other art forms. Increasing links with music technology, live performance, theater, film and social media offer new creative opportunities and expand the traditional professional fields with innovative career paths.
The versatility of this profession requires a broad education that combines musical excellence with practical insights into the music business, production, media work and didactics. Those who establish themselves as pop musicians or music educators move in an exciting, constantly evolving environment – on stage, in the studio, in the digital space and in music education work with the artists of tomorrow.

Music Education – Pop (B.A.)
Studying at the IfM was the beginning of my musical career for me, because it was only there that I really realized I could turn my great passion – music – into a profession. It was one of the most important steps in my life. For me it was essential to get out of my own musical four walls, to connect with others who feel the same way as I do and to broaden my horizons.
The atmosphere on campus was particularly outstanding – jamming together in every situation, the exchange with othermusicians, supporting each other and above all the approachability of theteachers, who come from professional practice themselves. The many opportunities to perform on campus and in Osnabrück were also formative. I had the chance to sing and play in various projects that formed at the IfM. These experiences laid the foundation for everything I get to do today.

Music Education – Pop (B.A.)
My music studies at the Institute of Music in Osnabrück not only gave me a sound musical education but also allowed me to grow artistically and personally. I particularly valued the family atmosphere and the appreciative way people treat each other. The close connection between theory and practice and the individual support brought out my strengths and decisively strengthened my artistic identity. At the same time, my studies prepared me in a practical way for the reality of the music business and gave me important tools for my path as a musician.
