In their third semester of the Master Land Use Transformation, students have the option of completing a semester at an accredited university abroad. Modules completed abroad are compiled and recognized together under the module "Semester Abroad". The module "Project Abroad" (5 CP) is required as a complement to "Semester Abroad".

During the semester abroad, students can complete Master level modules totaling 25 credit points (CP) at an accredited university abroad.

Students choose modules complementing the curriculum of the degree program Land Use Transformation according to the offerings of the university abroad.

The chosen modules are outlined prior to the start of the semester in the learning agreement, which must be updated with any changes within the first four weeks of lectures.

Information on the conversion of grades can be found in the official guideline of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Point 4.3. in Leitlinie zur Umsetzung § 11 ATPO). 

The modules completed abroad are combined and recognized as a package in the "Semester Abroad" module. If fewer than 25 CP are acquired at the university abroad, up to 10 CP can be earned through relevant Master's modules at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences as a substitute.

After studying for a semester at a university abroad, students demonstrate new specialist knowledge of objectives and facts related to the field of land use transformation.

Students can draw connections between their new subject-related knowledge gained through their semester abroad and their prior knowledge in the field of land use transformation. They can compare and contrast their study experiences in different cultural and institutional contexts. 

Through the semester abroad, students can critcally reflect on how approaches to knowledge and subject matter vary according to the cultural context of study. They can sythesize their learning outcomes in preparation for their masters thesis.

Students apply the practical self-management and project-organizational skills in coordinating and completing the semester abroad. They can critically evaluate the specialist knowledge aquired in the course of their study abroad, as well as their use of knowledge and skills across cultural and institutional contexts.

Students can communicate with an expert audience about their subject matter using the technical language, in speech and writing, taking cultural contexts into account.

Students can evaluate their personal strengths, challenges and areas of expertise. They can imagine their potential role as a member of the global community of researchers and practitioners collectively working on the challenges of land use.
