Besonderheiten des Moduls

In their third semester of the Master Land Use Transformation, students have the option of completing a study semester at an accredited university abroad. The module "Project Abroad" (5 CP) is required as a complement to "Semester Abroad".

Kurzbeschreibung

This module accompanies the semester abroad and serves as the basis for independently developing and examining a complex research question with reference to the specific cultural and/or geographic context of the host country.

Lehr-Lerninhalte

1. Professional and organizational preparation phase:
- determining of the focus of interest
- defining the individual project according to the learning objectives in cooperation with the module supervisor at Osnabrück University of Applied Science
- planing the independent work in light of the workload of the accompanying semester abroad coursework 
2. Research phase:
- processing the specific research or project task,
- critically reflecting the applied methods and work steps or phases of work in light of the relevant literature
3. Reporting Phase:
- preparing and presenting the project results in the form of a written project report
- reflecting on professional and personal experiences in the written report

Gesamtarbeitsaufwand

The student and module supervisor define the details of the project task on a case-by-case basis, according to the individual project focus.

Bemerkung zur Prüfungsart

The standard form of examination is a written project report. Deviations from this can be agreed upon between the student and module supervisor.

Prüfungsdauer und Prüfungsumfang

The student and module supervisor define the required components of the written project report on a case-by-case basis, according to the individual project focus. Normally this comprises ca. 12-18 pages, excluding any appendix.

Empfohlene Vorkenntnisse

Successful completion of the first two semesters of the Masters program Land Use Transformation.

Wissensverbreiterung

In addition to demonstrating specialist knowledge of objectives and facts related to their project topic in the field of land use transformation, students can outline the technical, organizational and communicative requirements involved in completing an independent project task.

Wissensvertiefung

Students can integrate new subject-related knowledge generated through their project with their prior knowledge in the field of land use transformation. They can asses potential impacts of the cultural context of study. They can describe their methods and discuss the relative merits of potential methodological approaches to their topic.

Wissensverständnis

Through the project abroad, students generate potential research questions and hypotheses and operationationalize their knowledge of facts and methods to complete an independent research or project task. They also critically reflect on their methods and results. 

Nutzung und Transfer

In the course of completing their project task, students apply the practical self-management and project-organizational skills and specialist knowledge aquired in their study program to the project abroad and can critically reflect their use of knowledge and skills across cultural and institutional contexts.

Students can develop unique research questions and independently complete project tasks. They can successfully plan and execute project processes.

Kommunikation und Kooperation

Students can communicate with an expert audience about their subject matter using the technical language and taking cultural contexts into account.

Students can evaluate their personal strengths and challenges and conceptualize their potential role as a member of the global community of researchers and practitioners collectively working on the challenges of land use.

Literatur

Students will seek applicable literature for their specific project topic.
