Kurzbeschreibung

Clinical casuistry will be used to review and discuss various theories and treatment models used in physical therapy. Clinical reasoning strategies are discussed, as well as forward and backward reasoning. Concepts such as (meta)cognition and pattern recognition will be introduced. Afterwards, clinical reasoning strategies are applied again with the help of casuistics, considering the hypothesis categorization: pathobiological mechanisms, sources, ICF, contributing factors, precautions, contraindications, prognosis and management.

Lehr-Lerninhalte

The current state of clinical decision-making is applied to everyday practice from the perspective of implicit theory formation. The basic science of clinical decision-making on individual patients based on evidence-based practice. Clinical reasoning models with emphasis on forward and backward reasoning and the implications for everyday professional decisions. Strategies in clinical reasoning; (meta-)cognition, knowledge, hypothetico-deductive reasoning and pattern recognition; hypothesis generation and analysis of hypotheses using casuistics.

Wissensverbreiterung

Students who have successfully completed this module will...

  • define the various clinical reasoning strategies including hypothesis categories.
  • they assign pathobiologic mechanisms, sources, ICF, contributing factors, precautions, contraindications, prognosis, and management to a case-specific basis.
  • represent diversity dimensions (e.g. gender and gender identity, age, social origin, ethnicity and nationality, sexual orientation, religion and belief, physical and mental ability) as a significant influencing factor in case understanding in the therapeutic process.

Wissensvertiefung

Students who have completed this module will...

  • integrate their knowledge regarding various physiotherapeutic cases with the support of casuistics from daily practice.
  • discuss general contributing factors (yellow flags) and contraindications (red flags) of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

Wissensverständnis

Students who have successfully completed this module will...

  • analyze a simple case through neuromusculoskeletal pattern recognition.
  • verify hypotheses in the context of further physical examination and management.
  • challenge evidence-based knowledge using the PICO scheme.

Nutzung und Transfer

Students who have successfully completed this module will...

  • analyze common theories and treatment models, as well as clinical reasoning strategies, and are able to apply them to clinical practice.
  • reflect on individual, cultural, social, and group diversity in order to integrate it into their clinical reasoning process.

Kommunikation und Kooperation

Students who have successfully completed this module will...

  • communicate the clinical procedures considering Clinical Reasoning strategies to other groups of people.
  • present their clinical reasoning process from their own clinical practice in a case-specific manner.
