Measuring instruments are of fundamental importance to drive plants in a way that assures production of high quality with a maximum of efficiency and safety, and a minimum of effort, e. g. energy. The measurement of machine vibration is used as an example to overview all components of such a system.
- Lehrinhalte
1. Purpose of measuring machine vibrations: Predictive and safety monitoring
2. Machinery to be monitored
3. Quantities to be measured: acceleration, velocity, displacement, rotational speed
4. Requirements on measurements (bandwidth, speed, etc.)
5. Components of measuring systems: a. Sensors b. Electronics (Hardware) for measuring and supply purposes c. Embedded Software d. PC Software (display, configuration, database)

Wissensverbreiterung
The students know the main requirements for measuring vibration.
They know the main components of such systems.
Due to the interdisciplinary character of this modul, the students broaden their knowledge towards new areas.

The students increase their knowledge in their key subject while using it in a broader, more complex environment.
Können - instrumentale Kompetenz
The students know the key parameters of power supplies, sensors, electronics and software, used in monitoring machine vibration in order to get products of high quality.
Können - kommunikative Kompetenz
Students can communicate key properties on systems for the measurement of vibration. They can evaluate components wether they fulfil the requirements for such a system.
Können - systemische Kompetenz
Based on the deeply discussed example for a measurement, the students will be able to analyze requirements of measuring systems and select appropriate components in order to perform a measurement of sufficient quality and precision. They will be able to participate in a devepment project on such an instrument.
