Kurzbeschreibung

This module discusses and reflects on different perceptions of nature and landscape in the context of the Anthropocene debate.

Lehr-Lerninhalte

- Presentation of different conceptions of nature in the context of their historical development (from domination of nature to current wilderness strategies), as well as in different cultural circles.
- Reflection on the development of the understanding of nature in the context of the Anthropocene debate
- Establishing the connection to the topics of landscape development and sustainable land use
- Elaboration of transformation strategies that reflect a contemporary understanding of nature (also based on best practice examples)

Bemerkung zur Prüfungsart

The standard examination form is a term paper (Hausarbeit); any deviations from this will be announced in the first four weeks after the start of lectures.

Additionally, students may be asked to complete a design task as an ungraded assignment.

Prüfungsdauer und Prüfungsumfang

The term paper is to be completed within 6 weeks and comprise ca 10-15 pages.

Students expand their knowledge on the development of conceptions of nature. They also generate instrumental knowledge of planning strategies.

Wissensvertiefung

Students deepen their understanding of the impact of nature conceptions on strategies for implementing changes towards sustainable land use.

In addition to target and factual knowledge, students also acquire instrumental transformation knowledge on the complex processes of sustainable land use.

Analyzing international case studies, students develop knowledge that can be transferred to different application cases in the field of sustainable land use change.

Students develop research questions and learn to understand and plan processes of change for sustainable land use and landscapes through inquiry-based learning.

Students learn the relevance of understanding and consciously dealing with conceptions of nature.

Students reflect on opportunities and limiting factors presented by socially anchored ideal images of nature. They reflect on their professional role in social communication processes.
