Kurzbeschreibung

In this module students acquire knowledge and capabilities relating to the planning, organisation and implementation of conferences, conventions and meetings of every kind.

Lehr-Lerninhalte

This module consists of 10 parts:

  1. Introduction to the MICE industry 
  2. The strategical concept of conferences, conventions and meetings
  3. Planning and organising of conferences, conventions and meetings (project management)
  4. The role of Professional Congress Organisers (PCOs) and other service partners 
  5. The role of DMOs (Destination Management Organisations)
  6. Promotion of conferences, conventions and meetings 
  7. Management of delegates
  8. Budgeting and financing
  9. Evaluation of conferences, conventions and meetings 
  10. Future challenges of the MICE industry

Bemerkung zur Prüfungsart

The portfolio examination consists of:

PFP1: a one-hour exam (60%) and a presentation (40%)
PFP2: a one-hour exam (60%) and a seminar paper with oral and written parts (R; 40%)
PFP3: a one-hour exam (60%) and an orally presented case study (FSM; 40%)

Prüfungsdauer und Prüfungsumfang

Written examination: in accordance with the valid study regulations

Seminar paper: approx. 5-10 pages/ approx. 10 -15 minutes

Presentation: approx. 20 minutes

Orally presented case study: approx. 20 minutes

The requirements are specified in the relevant class.

Students who successfully complete this module understand the importance of national and international conferences, conventions and meetings within the relevant market and the key players involved.

Wissensvertiefung

Students who successfully complete this module understand the general steps and elements to successfully plan, organise and manage conferences, conventions and meetings. 

Wissensverständnis

Students who successfully complete this module can assess the feasibility of different concepts and they can apply the different elements of success with regards to the different types of conferences, conventions and meetings in changing environments with different stakeholder and target groups. 

Nutzung und Transfer

Students who successfully complete this module know and understand different conference and event formats and can apply them to different contexts, thus being able to organise suitable event concepts directed at individual stakeholder needs.

Students who successfully complete this module demonstrate effective communication and teamwork skills.

Students who successfully complete this module have gained essential knowledge and skills in conference, convention and meetings management and can critically reflect on their actions in relation to social and (event) market expectations and consequences.
