This module teaches students advanced English reading and writing skills.
- Lehr-Lerninhalte
This module focuses on teaching students how to read and write professional texts.
- Students will learn to read general English articles at the speed of 70-80 words/min.
- They will be able to read English newspapers and magazines with the help of a dictionary.
- Students will also practice writing academic assignments/papers.

The portfolio examination consists of:
PFP1: a one-hour exam (30%) and a two-hour exam (70%)
PFP2: a written project report (30%) and a written paper (70%)
PFP3: a one-hour exam (30%) and a written paper (70%)

Written examination: in accordance with the valid study regulations
Written paper: approx. 10-15 pages
Written project report: approx. 15-20 pages

- Wissensverbreiterung
Students who successfully complete this module can read professional English articles at the speed of 100-130 words/min. Students are able to critically analyze English articles. Students can write an academic paper with 800-1500 words.
- Wissensvertiefung
Students who successfully complete this module have an English vocabulary of approx. 10,000 words. They are familiar with different English writing styles and have a basic knowledge of academic writing in English.
- Wissensverständnis
Students who successfully complete this module can use electronic academic resources to do research and correctly write academic bibliographies for their papers.
- Nutzung und Transfer
Vocabulary: Based on the original vocabulary of around 4,000 words, students can master about 1,000 words through learning the second book and expand vocabulary to more than 5,000 words. Students are able to spell correctly, master the basic meaning and usage of words and related common phrases.
Reading: Be able to read and understand articles of average language difficulties and general topics and learn basic reading skills.
Listening: After listening twice, students are able to understand English lectures and simple conversations with an average speed and grasp the main idea and key points.
Speaking: Learn basic classroom language and be able to ask questions in English and answer teachers' questions about the text.
Writing: Be able to take notes, answer questions, complete outlines and fill in forms according to the texts studied. Be able to complete short essays with a specified number of words within half an hour. The content is coherent and the grammar is basically correct.
Translation: Be able to translate English articles that are less difficult than the text with correct understanding and basic translation.

Combined with the cultural traditions, social customs and values of various countries around the world in the teaching materials, students are guided to understand and explore the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, cultivate cultural tolerance and enhance their understanding of different cultures and their ability to express themselves appropriately in cross-cultural communication.

The lecture combines the relationship between man and man, man and nature, man and society, daily topics that appear in texts such as life, learning and emotion, as well as deep-seated topics such as politics, economy, history, culture, science and technology, with the development of the current era, so that students can perceive the development of the times, understand world culture, improve humanistic quality, cultivate moral sentiments and enhance core values through vivid language carriers.
