Kurzbeschreibung

Disciplinary research projects are planned and carried out according to specific methodological procedures. This module teaches the specific research process in physical therapy science with the associated methods and principles. This includes systematic literature review, development of a research question, data collection methods, and data analysis strategies. In addition, characteristics of alternative research approaches will be highlighted.

The selection of graded and ungraded examination types from the given options is the responsibility of the respective teacher. In doing so, he/she will adhere to the respective valid study regulations.

Prüfungsdauer und Prüfungsumfang

For the types of examinations permitted in the module, the following information on the scope or duration applies in each case. 

  • Project report, written: approx. 10-15 pages, excluding appendix
  • Presentation: approx. 20-40 minutes, accompanying paper: approx. 5-10 pages
  • Answer-Choice-Procedure: see respective valid study regulations

The requirements will be specified in the respective course.

Wissensverbreiterung

Students will learn the fundamentals of research methodology in physical therapy science and outline the basic flow of the research process.

Wissensvertiefung

Students will describe and be able to explain the basic components research methodology of physical therapy science.

Students will justify the importance of and be able to justify research methodology in physical therapy science.

Nutzung und Transfer

With the help of the acquired knowledge and competences, the students can plan and carry out their own small research project. This means that the students are able to conduct a systematic literature search, set up a physiotherapy-specific research question, collect data and evaluate and interpret them using simple analysis strategies.

Kommunikation und Kooperation

Students will be able to present the knowledge and skills they have acquired in research methodology, such as the results of a small research project, and reflect on their approach.

Wissenschaftliches Selbstverständnis / Professionalität

Students justify the importance of research, which is one of the pillars in the professionalization process of physical therapy, along with professional autonomy and evidence-based practice.
