Transformation through Excellence
With its strong ties to business, society, and academia, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences has been driving innovation for years. Today, it is the largest and has the highest output on research among universities of applied sciences in Lower Saxony.
Excellence in applied sciences means to us: research, knowledge transfer, and teaching that have a direct impact in the real world—whether in businesses, local communities, or the healthcare sector. Our solutions are developed in close collaboration with society and make concrete contributions to the transformation of our world.
Transformation means to us: profound change in virtually all areas of life – from climate protection to digitalization and demographic trends, to securing a skilled workforce and global cooperation. These changes affect not only society as a whole, but also our university itself. We see transformation as an opportunity to shape new paths together.
That is why TExAS combines the further development of the university itself with a concrete contribution to economic and social transformation.
The project pursues three strategic goals: strengthening research, pioneering new approaches to study and teaching, and optimizing administrative processes. These are implemented in six subprojects:
- Strengthening Research:
1. Ensuring research excellence in the three research fields,
2. Establishing three research centers,
3. Establishing a Center for Applied Transformational Excellence (CTX)
- Enhancing the flexibility of degree programs and of teaching and learning structures:
4. Making degree programs more flexible (Flexcellence),
5. Attracting more international students (Seekcellence)
- Optimizing Internal Administrative Processes:
6. Establishing a Service Center for Administrative Excellence (Operational Excellence Hub)
Funding
The university will receive 16.25 million euros in funding for TExAS through 2030. The project is being implemented as part of the “Strategically Shaping Potential” funding line of the zukunft.niedersachsen program.
Project Management
The overarching subproject “Project Management and Science Communication” (TPQ) ensures that TExAS functions as a cohesive unit—strategically, organizationally, and communicatively. The goal is to coordinate, support, and connect the six subprojects as effectively as possible so that the results contribute meaningfully to the transformation. The focus is therefore on:
- Efficient project and financial management
- Coordination among all subprojects
- The development of common communication structures
- Support for application, reporting, and evaluation processes
Strategic and Operational Project Management
Project management coordinates all cross-cutting processes—from overall management and third-party funding management to internal communication.
We create structures that promote transparency, efficiency, and collaboration—within the university and beyond.
Science Communication
Another key focus is on science communication. We are developing a strategy for the university’s science communication and exploring new approaches to highlight research methods, processes, and results, while strengthening dialogue with the business community, policymakers, and society at large. Researchers also receive support to communicate their findings in a clear and effective manner.
Overall Project Management
The project is being led by Vice President Prof. Dr. Bernd Lehmann on behalf of the University Steering Committee, with Dr. Christiane Kühne serving as project manager.
