Compact courses

Compact Courses
Several students already have experience in a language, mathematics or accounting. If you want to brush up these skills before the placement test, you can participate in a compact course.
The compact courses take place before the semester begins. During this period, the following compact courses are offered:
- English compact course (Level 2) - (currently inactive, due to low participation/interest)
- Mathematics compact course (german language only)
- Accounting compact course
- Accountig intensive course
Business administration in healthcare:
If you are skilled in mathmatics (e.g. advanced course), you do not need to take a preliminary course. Registration for the placement test in mathematics is sufficient. If you have little knowledge of mathematics, especially if you attended school a longer time ago, you should attend the compact course in mathematics. The mathematics placement test is necessary for the “Business Mathematics” module in the first semester.
If you have good previous knowledge of accounting (e.g. commercial training), a compact course is recommended, but this is not compulsory. For students with little or no previous knowledge, the compact course or the semester-accompanying preparatory course in accounting is recommended.
As the “Business Mathematics” module is planned for the first semester, the compact course mathematics should be taken before the compact course accounting, unless you already have sufficient mathematic skills.
If you are unskilled in/new to English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years. This course is currently inactive, due to low participation numbers.
Business Administration and Management and International Business Administration and Management:
If you are skilled in mathmatics (e.g. advanced course), you do not need to take a preliminary course. Registration for the placement test in mathematics is sufficient. If you have little knowledge of mathematics, especially if you attended school a longer time ago, you should attend the compact course in mathematics.
If you are unskilled in/new to English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years. This course is currently inactive, due to low participation numbers.
If you have little skills in accounting, we recommend attending the two-day “Preliminary Accounting Course”. A placement test is not required, but participation in this course is the ideal preparation for the lecture in the first semester.
International Management:
If you are skilled in mathmatics (e.g. an advanced course) you do not have to take a preliminary course. Registration for the Placement Test Mathematics is sufficient. In case of lower knowledge in mathematics, especially if the school has been completed some time ago, the compact course in mathematics should be taken as a precaution.
There is no obligation to take the English Placement Test.
Attending the Preliminary Accounting Course makes sense before the summer semester (second semester), since participation optimally prepares for the lecture in the summer semester.
Public management:
If you are skilled in accounting (e.g. commercial training), a preliminary course is recommended, but is not compulsory. For students with little or no prior knowledge of accounting, the semester-long preparatory course in accounting is recommended.
If you are unskilled in/new to English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years. This course is currently inactive, due to low participation numbers.
Business Psychology:
If you are unskilled in/new to English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years. This course is currently inactive, due to low participation numbers.
There is no need to take other placement tests or compact courses.
Business Law:
If you are unskilled in/new to English, consuming English-language media can prepare you for the English placement test. The purpose of this is to place you at the correct level for our English courses during the semester. The English refresher course is designed for students who have not studied the language for several years. This course is currently inactive, due to low participation numbers.
If you have little or no knowledge of accounting, we recommend attending the two-day “Preliminary Accounting Course”. There is no need to take a placement test, but attending the course is the ideal preparation for the lecture in the first semester.
In the compact mathematics course, students can refresh their knowledge, for example from the Abitur, and prepare specifically for the placement test, which is required in the degree programs
- Business Administration and Management
- Business administration in healthcare
- International Business Administration and Management
in order to be admitted to the compulsory module “Business Mathematics”.
In the compact math course, the contents of the mathematics placement test, such as the basics of algebra, arithmetic, functional theory and differential calculus, including the discussion of curves, are taught. The courses takes place at the Caprivi Campus in the CN building in person.

The compact course in accounting is fast-paced compared to the weekly courses that run throughout the semester. It is therefore recommended for first-semester students who already have some prior knowledge of industrial accounting. Alternatively, it serves as a refresher course for those who acquired their knowledge some time ago. It is particularly aimed at students who have to take a placement test at the beginning of the semester.
Students without prior knowledge can also participate in the compact course. However, in the preparatory course offered specifically for them during the semester, the topics can be worked on and reviewed in more detail due to the weekly schedule of classes. At the end of the semester, there is also an exam/test to assess knowledge. This exam is equivalent to the placement test.
The course is mainly aimed at the following degree programs:
- Business Administration in Healthcare B.A. (alternatively, participation in the preparatory course in the 1st semester)
- Public Management B.A. (alternatively, participation in the preparatory course in the 1st semester)
Please note the following information regarding participation: Preliminary information (available in german only)
