We use digital technologies in teaching, which improve the teaching and learning process, make it more versatile and take individual learning rhythms into account. Examples include online courses, e-learning platforms and digital teaching materials. The lecture halls of the future, equipped with high-quality technology, will make it possible to invite external experts or global classrooms to enable new perspectives and intercultural interactions, among other things. The digital technologies used help to improve communication and collaboration between students and researchers, facilitate access to data and knowledge, and optimize administrative processes. We therefore rely on digitalized committee management, internal information media and decision-making processes. They not only lead to efficiency advantages, but also to a substantial improvement in service quality.

Digital transformation includes the fundamental rethinking of society, companies and organizations due to the new possibilities of digitalization and artificial intelligence.
Whether the digital transformation is successful will largely depend on whether students have the necessary transformation and leadership skills. That is why students at the Faculty acquire skills and professional abilities in the areas of change management, project management, communication, leadership, entrepreneurship and agility on the one hand, as well as technical skills on the other, such as dealing with industry-specific information systems, databases and applications.
Digital transformation is a key driver of innovation and efficiency in various industries. By integrating digital focuses and specializations into the studies at the Faculty and scientifically discussing topics such as artificial intelligence, digital health and data science, students acquire the necessary up-to-date specialist knowledge and develop the ability to flexibly deal with constantly changing demands.
For the Faculty, the promotion of digital skills is a key aspect and digitalization is a cross-sectional topic, which is why it is given special consideration in a large number of the modules offered. This way, students come into contact with modern technologies and digital working methods at an early stage. This enables them to operate successfully in the digital economy and develop innovative solutions to social challenges.
The lecture halls of the future, as technically state-of-the-art rooms for university didactics, enable students and teachers to network in diverse and innovative ways. Global Classrooms help promote intercultural collaboration and learning together around the world. This strengthens and enables the development of global perspectives and solutions to global challenges. Hybrid teaching offers provide more flexibility and new forms of interaction. Like inverted classrooms, they stand for contemporary skills and knowledge transfer.
The Center for Multimedia and IT Applications (ZeMIT) at the Faculty offers support for specific IT applications and also serves as a competence center for e-learning applications. It offers all students at the Faculty extensive advice on media and methodological skills as an essential basis for modern scientific work.
Funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences was able to staff five digitalization professorships, one of which at the BMSS Faculty in the “Digital Society” area. The appointment of two additional professorships at the Faculty in the areas of “Digital Health” and “Data Science” is planned. The digitization professorships primarily strengthen subject areas of computer science (e.g. artificial intelligence, IT security, data science, etc.) and related and adjacent disciplines in teaching and research.
The overarching goal of digitalization professorships is to avoid digitalization disruptions in the economy and society and to build bridges for digital regions. The technical and social skills required for this should be identified, further developed and widely implemented in the degree programs. By acquiring a high level of digital maturity, students will be better able to develop digital specialist knowledge and competences in the future and thus quantitatively and qualitatively expand the range of academic specialists and managers in the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences region and far beyond.
