Compact CoursesFaculty of Business Management and Social Sciences
Several students already have experience in a language, mathematics or accounting. If you want to brush up these skills before the placement test, you can participate in a compact course.
The compact courses take place in the period from September 04. to 15. 2017 before the semester begins. During this period, the following compact courses are offered:
- English compact course (Level 2) - only with corresponding number of registrations
- Mathematics compact course (german language)
- Mathematics (English) compact course - only with corresponding number of registrations
- Accounting compact course (german language)
- Spanish compact course (Level 1) - only with corresponding number of registration
Additional speed - courses accounting will take place from September 18. to 22. 2017. This cours will not prepare you for the placement test.
The English compact course includes about 60 hours. During this time, students work intensively to improve their English language skills. The course is primarily reserved for freshmen whose experience with the English language is not recent or who did not have an English grade better than satisfactory in school. The contents of the English compact course are chosen so that the students can increase their performance level to the next level.
At the beginning of the compact course, the placement test is performed for the first time to assess the language level of the students. Uniform groups are formed on the basis of the results. At the end of the compact course, their improved performance level is identified with a test and an interview.
In the Mathematics compact course, students can brush up on the skills from their Abitur [university qualification] and specifically prepare for the placement test. The content of the mathematics placement test such as the basics of algebra, arithmetic, function theory and differential calculus including curve sketching are covered intensively.
To prepare, sample tests with the solutions are available to participants.

The Accounting compact course is for students with limited proficiency and aimed especially at freshmen. Students who have no knowledge of accounting, can participate in a semester-accompanying preparation course.
As part of the compact course, the content of the placement tests, the accounting and closing techniques, as well as the basics of cost and performance accounting are handled among other things, as part of the compact course. The course is based on the textbook IKR – Industrielles Rechnungswesen by Schmolke-Deitermann, 43rd Edition (ISBN: 3804568521) as a basis. Students must obtain this in advance at their own expense.

The Spanish compact course is aimed mainly at freshmen, but also students of higher semesters may participate. Participants of the course should have no or very little knowledge of the Spanish language.
At the end of the course, participants complete an oral and written test, which entitles students to attend level 2 courses.
The registration is only possible online. An online form is released for this during the registration period. You can register only during the registration periods. Registrations by e-mail will not be considered.
- August 14th - August 30th
Every student can only register for one compact course because some courses are held in parallel. A separate application must be done for the subsequent placement test.
Registration for a compact course does not guarantee a place. After expiry of the registration period, participants are determined where the 1st semester students are given priority for the awarding of the study places.
After expiry of the registration period, participants receive a notification of the course participation and more information, such as the room number.
