Midwifery (B.Sc.)

Program structure

Structure of the program

The first semester at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences begins with the completion of the first half of the apprentice training to become a midwife or labor and delivery nurse at one of the cooperating schools of midwifery.

After a first jointly designed study stage which integrates the apprenticeship (semesters 1 to 3), the full-time studies (semesters 4 to 6) continue. With this structure, the degree program is designed in two learning stages, which together comprise a standard period of 6 semesters. The degree program concludes with a Bachelor of Science.

Registered midwives can study extra-occupationally in the first study stage (semesters 1 to 3). Midwives, who have at least 18 months professional experience, have the opportunity to take an equivalence exam. If this is passed, the midwife can start in the fourth semester (winter semester) in full-time study.

First study stage

In the first stage of the study, which includes the semesters 1 to 3, the learning contents are taught in the cooperating midwifery schools with supplementary training modules of the Osnabrück University of Applied Science. The modules of the first study stage (semesters 1 to 3) are used in preparation for the second study stage (semesters 4 to 6) at the Osnabrück University of Applied Science.

Second study stage

In the second stage of the study, full-time studies from the fourth to the sixth semesters are taught exclusively at the university.
