PROMOS scholarships
The Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences awards scholarships for stays abroad. These scholarships are financed by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the framework of PROMOS program.
On this page, you will find general information and further details on the three funding lines of the PROMOS scholarships.
You can follow the student Lea here (all in german) and see her report about her PROMOS-scholarship.
Requirements, deadlines, and further information
Below you will find all the important information about PROMOS funding at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences.
All students at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences who are pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences are eligible to apply.
The following funding conditions supplement the specific conditions of the various funding lines.
- Funding for stays abroad in the home country is excluded.
- The stay abroad must be related to the degree program, but the crediting of academic achievements is not mandatory.
- The mobility allowance of the faculties/departments cannot be claimed at the same time.
- The amount and duration of PROMOS-funded scholarships are determined in accordance with the guidelines established by the DAAD for the PROMOS program. Due to limited funds, partial funding of the stay may be granted. Specifically, this means that, for example, for a 4-month stay, a partial scholarship may only be granted for 2 months. It is also possible that only the travel allowance or only the monthly partial scholarships will be approved.
- The application documents must be uploaded in full to the Mobility Online portal by the application deadline, or the reference must have been sent directly to the CIM by the referee.
The next application phase runs from mid-April to May 15,2026. All students who wish to start their stay abroad between July and December 2026 can apply here. Only complete applications with the correct application documents will be considered.
Note:
The Promos Advisory Board, consisting of the international relations officers of the faculties, confirms and decides on the scholarship program each year. Any significant changes, e.g., type of funding and scope of funding, usually take effect at the beginning of the academic year, i.e., at the start of the winter semester. Changes will be published here.
Applications must be submitted via the Mobility Online portal.
Please fill out the application form there and upload all required documents after registering. The reference should be sent by the referee to Alina Musielak by email. Only one reference is required from each applicant. If several references are received, only the first one received will be considered. Only complete applications with the correct application documents will be considered.
Approximately 6 weeks after the application deadline, you will receive written notification of the selection result.
The selection criteria are your grades (grade point average, number of credits, failed attempts), your reference, and the criterion of “special circumstances.” These criteria are used to create a ranking list, which forms the basis for approvals.
Selection criterion “special circumstances”:
If the requirements for several criteria are met, only one can be claimed. As proof, please submit a sworn statement to us. This will be made available to you via Mobility Online.

- The monthly net income is above €450 and below €850 (net earnings from all activities per month added together).
- The activity is not carried out on a self-employed basis.

FUNDING LINE I Semester scholarships for study abroad worldwide
Funding is available for stays abroad for the purpose of completing a one-semester course of study at a foreign university.
The funding period is a maximum of three months. The scholarship covers monthly installments and, if applicable, a one-time travel allowance depending on the country. Below you will find country-specific information on the PROMOS- funding rates 2026. Tuition fees are not covered.
If stays abroad are extended, for example by another semester or a thesis after the internship, and if the first part of the stay abroad was funded by PROMOS or other sources, no travel allowance will be paid. If the first part of the stay abroad was not funded, a maximum of half of the travel allowance will be granted for the return journey.
As an additional funding requirement, a written learning agreement regarding the academic achievements to be completed abroad must be concluded in advance and bindingly with the faculty/institute. Any changes after the start of studies at the host university must be made in writing with the faculty/institute. The learning agreement must comprise at least 20 ECTS credits for bachelor's programs and at least 18 ECTS credits for master's programs.
- Application form – Please fill this out. With the exception of the reference, you can upload the following documents to the Mobility Online portal.
- Tabular resume
- Overview of all academic achievements (grades, credits, failed attempts, date of each exam entry), not older than four weeks (calculated from the application deadline). Please note: Some extracts from the Ilias portal do not contain all of the above-mentioned necessary information and cannot be accepted.
- Module overview with indication of the preliminary average grade (can be found in your eCampus>Student Services>Documents>Self-Service Documents>left side Module Overview (Master's Application) with Average Grade)
- Reference from only one professor or lecturer at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (on the form). References from lecturers cannot be accepted. If in doubt, you can check the category using the person search function. Any second references and detailed references will not be considered. Only the form will be accepted. The first page of the form is for the reference to provide background information and does not need to be submitted with the application. The second page of the form should be completed in full by the referee. In their own interest, students should provide the referee with a comprehensive overview of their plans abroad so that all information can be provided and all points can be evaluated. The reference should be sent directly by the teacher to the Center for International Mobility (CIM).
- Proof of language skills in the target country or the language in which the course is taught (at least level B1). If the level is not apparent from your transcript, you can submit the DAAD-language certificate, which should be completed by a language instructor. The placement test offered by the university to assign you to an English course level cannot be accepted, as it is usually taken without supervision.
- Study plan - Please list the lectures you will attend at the host university and justify your selection. A copy of the learning agreement can be used for this purpose
- It is not possible to receive both an ERASMUS and a PROMOS scholarship at the same time. In the case of existing ERASMUS cooperation agreements with foreign universities, it is generally not possible to receive semester scholarships in these subject areas within the framework of PROMOS. However, if a cooperation agreement only exists for a specific department, funding from PROMOS for another department is possible in exceptional cases. Funding is also possible in exceptional cases if the ERASMUS quota for a department has been exhausted, i.e., if there are no more ERASMUS places available under the ERASMUS agreement with the host university. If students are excluded from a further ERASMUS stay due to previous ERASMUS funding, funding through PROMOS is possible.
- PROMOS scholarships are not granted if financial support for the purpose of a “stay abroad” can be obtained from other scholarship providers/funders. This also includes any mobility allowances awarded by the faculties.
- Students who receive foreign BAföG during their stay abroad do not receive a PROMOS supplementary scholarship, but rather the country-specific PROMOS partial scholarship rate. This regulation is necessary because the new BAföG regulations no longer provide for supplementary scholarships, but only for an exemption from deduction up to an amount of €300. Any additional funding from BAföG abroad will be taken into account. Travel allowances are not granted if BAföG abroad is received.
- DAAD individual scholarships and PROMOS funding cannot be claimed at the same time.
- The Germany Scholarship is not counted towards the PROMOS scholarship and can be received at the same time.
FUNDING LINE II Semester scholarships for theses worldwide
The funding line for scholarships for theses worldwide is divided into two funding bases. On the one hand, scholarships for the preparation of theses can be awarded worldwide. On the other hand, students in part-time programs can receive travel allowances for short stays worldwide to prepare their theses.
Scholarships for writing theses worldwide
Funding is available for stays abroad lasting one to three months worldwide, which are exclusively for the purpose of preparing or writing bachelor's or master's theses. No regular courses are attended at a university.
The funding period is one to three months. The funding includes monthly partial scholarships and a one-time travel allowance depending on the country. Below you will find country-specific information on the PROMOS-Funding rates 2026. Any tuition fees incurred cannot be covered.
If stays abroad are extended, e.g., by another semester or a thesis after the internship, and if the first part of the stay abroad was funded by PROMOS or other sources, no travel allowance will be paid. If the first part of the stay abroad was not funded, a maximum of half of the travel allowance will be granted for the return journey.

Funding lines III: Funding for internships
Funding is available for stays abroad outside the Erasmus+ area (i.e., outside the EU member states as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Norway, and Turkey) for the purpose of completing a one-semester internship.
An internship is defined as follows: The internship is completed in at least four to six months in a company/institution under expert supervision. The content of the internship must consist of work-related activities relevant to the respective degree program. These activities can be included in the recognition for a practical work project and/or in the final thesis. Funding is available for stays abroad outside Europe for the purpose of completing a one-semester internship.
Only internships lasting at least four months are eligible for funding. Shorter stays are not eligible. An exception is made for students in dual study programs and theater education, who must complete a minimum of two months (60 days).
The funding only includes a One-time travel allowance (“partial mobility scholarship”) depending on the country.
If stays abroad are extended, e.g., by another semester or a thesis after the internship, and funding was provided by PROMOS or other sources during the first part of the stay abroad, no travel allowance will be paid. If the first part of the stay abroad was not funded, a maximum of half of the travel allowance will be granted for the return journey.
