Knowledge Broadening

Students completing the module are able to understand and write short general language texts (forms, short emails, text messages).

Thanks to basic grammar and vocabulary, they are able to establish basic social contact and communicate in general language situations when speaking slowly and clearly.

Students expand their linguistic competence and observe basic orthographic and phonetic rules.

Knowledge Understanding

Students acquire a basic understanding of some of Poland's cultural characteristics.

They are able to recognize internationalisms and words from other languages and use them for simple communication.

Application and Transfer

Students are able to use basic grammatical and syntactical structures as well as a basic vocabulary and express themselves in familiar communication situations.

After this course students are equipped to understand simple, clearly spoken sentences that refer to themselves; to follow a conversation when it is about a familiar everyday topic and is spoken slowly. In addition, to introduce themselves and other people orally and in writing and to talk about and ask about their own interests, preferences, abilities, plans, projects and hobbies.

Students are able to understand simple texts (e.g. about cities and universities), exchange information about family, daily and weekly routines, justify a decision, and express comparisons and evaluations.

Communication and Cooperation

Students can communicate in Polish in a simple way if the other person speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.

They can use simple words to express themselves on topics of general interest and exchange the most important information, also paying attention to non-verbal signals.

By learning elementary cultural characteristics in the Polish language area, students develop a sensitivity for the connections between language and culture, which enables better communication.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

Students are able to assess their own language skills and know how to further develop their language skills when needed.
