Brief description

In the computer science seminar, students work largely independently on a given topic using specialist literature and other sources, and then present their findings in written and oral form. The seminar covers current topics in computer science.

Teaching and learning outcomes

Fundamental and current topics in computer science. Independent development of a given, limited subject area based on specialist literature and other sources as well as its written and oral presentation. Changing current topics from computer science are offered, the level of difficulty  is appropriate for the Bachelor's degree course.
In contrast to the traditional lecture, students are much more involved in the design and implementation of the course.

The seminar combines the two components

  • Independent acquisition of a specialist topic and
  • presentation of the prepared topic

in the center.

Overall workload

The total workload for the module is 150 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

Knowledge Broadening

Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the practical application and theoretical foundations of the respective topics covered in the seminar. The seminar promotes broad and integrated knowledge by encouraging participants to independently explore current research literature and engage with the latest developments and technologies.

Knowledge deepening

Through active participation in the seminar and working on specific research questions or projects, students develop a critical understanding of the most important theories, principles, and methods in the respective subject area. They are able to independently expand their knowledge beyond the study program by researching specialized aspects of the subject area.

Knowledge Understanding

Seminar participants critically reflect on and evaluate the validity and applicability of theories and methods in real and hypothetical scenarios. They learn to analyze complex problems from different perspectives and develop epistemologically sound arguments. The seminar places particular emphasis on teaching students to critically question and contextualize technical content in order to arrive at well-founded, innovative solutions.

Application and Transfer

Varies depending on the seminar's focus

Academic Innovation

Students develop their own research questions and work on them using appropriate scientific methods. The seminar promotes broad and integrated knowledge by encouraging participants to independently explore current research literature and engage with the latest developments and technologies.

Communication and Cooperation

By applying their knowledge in discussions, presentations, and projects, participants demonstrate their ability to structure, interpret, and effectively communicate complex information.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

The seminar places particular emphasis on teaching students to critically examine and contextualize technical content in order to arrive at well-founded, innovative solutions.
