- Brief description
With the Bachelor's thesis, students demonstrate that they can use and implement the theoretical and practical knowledge they have acquired. They can independently work on a specific complex task from their subject area within a limited period of time in an application-oriented manner on a scientific basis.
- Teaching and learning outcomes
The course contents in detail are
1. concretization of the task
2. drawing up a time schedule
3. recording the state of the art
4. creation of concepts for solving the task
5. developing partial solutions and combining them into an overall concept
6. overall consideration and evaluation of the solution
7. presentation of the solution in the form of the Bachelor's thesis
8. defense of the Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium
- Overall workload
The total workload for the module is 360 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

- Further explanations
Students receive a task after consultation with the examiner. This task must be completed independently within a specified time. Discussions with the examiner take place at regular intervals, in which the students present and discuss the status of their work on the task.
- Graded examination
- Final Degree Thesis and Final Oral Examination
- Exam duration and scope
Bachelor thesis: 40-70 pages
Colloquium: 15-45 minutes
- Recommended prior knowledge
Knowledge in the breadth of the Bachelor's program studied.
- Knowledge Broadening
Students can work on a problem from their field of study in a methodical and structured way. The problem and the solution are presented within a specified time frame with clearly structured results. As the topic of the final thesis is usually a specific problem from an area of application and has not been dealt with in this form during the course, it is a broadening of the previous level of knowledge.
- Knowledge deepening
Students grasp the task of their Bachelor's thesis topic, they find and deepen the scientific approaches to it. They develop a solution using scientific methods and on the basis of the skills they have acquired during their studies. In the written paper, they explain their results and differentiate them from existing solutions.
- Knowledge Understanding
Students use knowledge and skills from their studies to understand and solve the task of the Bachelor's thesis, which is new to them. They review the methods and procedures they have learned in relation to the task and reflect on them critically. They synthesize their own solutions and compare them with established solutions.
- Application and Transfer
Students integrate knowledge and skills from their previous studies in order to analyze the given problem, find approaches and develop solutions. Depending on the task, different methods and procedures from their studies are used. Students also independently acquire new procedures, methods or tools and use them in their work. They develop concepts for the solution and implement them.
- Academic Innovation
Students analyze the task and design development approaches to approximate a possible solution. They research existing solutions. They evaluate these critically and develop new approaches and solutions optimized for the specific task. They work out the innovative components of their solutions and evaluate them critically in relation to existing approaches. They create concrete, innovative solutions for the task at hand.
- Communication and Cooperation
In the Bachelor's thesis, students subject ideas, concepts, information and topics to critical analysis and evaluation and present them in an overall context. They exchange their interim results and follow-up investigations closely with various people in the company / institute and develop them further. They cooperate and communicate with different people and institutions. In the course of this, students develop the
appropriate communication skills in order to repeatedly coordinate their solutions to the task with all those involved and conclude them in a results-oriented manner.
- Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism
Students can classify scientific procedures from the experience gained in their Bachelor's thesis. They are able to assess subject-specific and task-specific methods with regard to technical and economic aspects. They professionalize their communication through cooperation with persons and institutions within and outside the university. They develop their professional approach to new tasks, even if these are in subject areas that are new to them.
