About the project
The project "Safe Points" is a collaboration between the University and the University of Applied Sciences of Osnabrück and establishes support points for people in acute situations of harassment or threat of violence. Anyone who feels unsafe, is being harassed or threatened on the campuses of the University or the University of Applied Sciences, can turn to the nearest Safe Point for help.
Safe Points are marked by the logo shown here. Those seeking help can either ask for support verbally or simply present one of the Safe Point cards.
This section lists all currently existing Safe Points. In case of need, the interactive map on the Safe Point startpage can also be used to navigate to a Safe Point.

- Interrupting the acute situation: The person seeking help is taken to a quiet place where they are not exposed to further harassment or threats.
- Enabling a safe departure from campus: Support is provided to help the person be safe in leaving the campus; details about the situation do not need to be disclosed.
- Providing information on consulting services: Materials from various internal and external consulting services are available on-site.
The staff at the Safe Points are explicitly not responsible for further matters, such as counseling on how to deal with the experience, attempting mediation, or sanctioning the accused person(s). For these concerns, individuals can contact the university's Anti-Discrimination Office, the Equal Opportunities Office or external counseling services.
The Safe Point cards in credit card size can be used to non-verbally request support at a Safe Point. Additionally, there is a QR code on the back that leads to the Safe Point navigation.
Safe Point cards are available at various locations on campus, such as:
- at all Safe Points
- at the information displays in the canteens („Mensa“) in the city centre and at Westerberg
- in the Equal Opportunities Offices of the University (Building 52, 5th floor) and the University of Applied Sciences (Building AF, 1st floor)
- in the building of the General Students' Committee (AStA, Building 08 & AE)
- at the information displays of several institutes and departments
The contact persons listed below welcome ideas for further distribution points as well as notifications when supplies need to be refilled.
For monitoring purposes, the employees at the Safe Points record how frequently a Safe Point is visited and, if possible, provide a broad categorization of the incident. No details regarding the incident, the person seeking help, or the accused person(s) are recorded or stored.
Individuals who would like a Safe Point to be established in a specific area, as well as institutions or offices that wish to become Safe Points, can contact the contact persons listed below.
Ideally, Safe Points are locations with fixed opening hours that also cover the off-peak hours of campus operations. However, to ensure that people in all areas of the campus can find a nearby Safe Point, locations with shorter or no fixed opening hours may also be considered in areas where no Safe Points currently exist.
