- Teaching and learning outcomes
Working on an open competition trains analysis, teamwork, and the final professional presentation of a design solution.
- task analysis
- site inspection or digital research of the brief
- development of sketch design approaches
- deliberation and decision making for a design concept
- concretizing and detailing the design
- presentation of the design idea in site plan, section, pictograms, visualizations, textual explanations, etc.
- preparation of final submission plans with corresponding layout
- Overall workload
The total workload for the module is 150 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

- Remark on the assessment methods
The submission of the competitive performance, which may vary in relation to the assignment, is considered a term paper. If necessary, the examination performance can be adjusted in consultation with the lecturer.
- Exam duration and scope
The submission is a group project according to the competition's specifications, which may vary.
As a guideline, the submission of 3 Din A0 plans with site plan, sections, details, perspectives, pictograms and text explanations can be mentioned.
- Recommended prior knowledge
Confidence in sketching,
Advanced knowledge of the relevant CAD and visualization programs
- Knowledge Broadening
Students define their concepts and develop a precise design solution using professional digital presentation techniques.
- Knowledge deepening
Students apply their existing skills in finding design solutions and planning and develop them further through practical application.
- Knowledge Understanding
By participating in the module, students are prepared for the practical development in the context of competitive processes.
- Application and Transfer
A strong presentation that best explains the design concept is an important part of design practice. The possibility of comparison with other competition entries submitted after the module provides an opportunity to reflect on one's own work.
- Academic Innovation
Critical reflection for the development of a design solution is developed through line-by-line analysis of the complex competition task.
- Communication and Cooperation
Students will work in teams, as they would in a professional design firm. The goal is to formulate their own design ideas verbally and in sketches as a basis for decision making, and to present them to each other in order to find the best solution among the possible variants. This process promotes teamwork, discussion, communication, and presentation skills among students.
- Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism
By participating in an international student competition, students professionalize their existing design and performance skills and bring them together in a team.
