Special features of the module

In their third semester students have the option of completing a 
semester at an accredited university abroad. Modules completed abroad are compiled and recognized together under the module "Semester Abroad". 

Brief description

During the semester abroad, students can complete Master level modules totaling 30 credit points (CP) at an accredited university abroad.

Teaching and learning outcomes

Students choose modules complementing the curriculum according to the offerings of the university abroad.
The chosen modules are outlined prior to the start of the semester in the learning agreement, which must be updated with any changes within the first four weeks of lectures.

Overall workload

The total workload for the module is 900 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

Remark on the assessment methods

Examination forms vary according to the chosen modules and requirements of the university abroad.
Information on the conversion of grades can be found in the official guideline of Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences (Point 4.3. in Leitlinie zur Umsetzung § 11 ATPO). 

Exam duration and scope

The modules completed abroad are combined and recognized as a package in the "Semester Abroad" module. If fewer than 30 CP are acquired at the university abroad, up to 10 CP can be earned through 
relevant Master's modules at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences as a substitute

Recommended prior knowledge

Successful completion of the first two semesters of the Masters program.

Depending on modules chosen at the accredited university abroad students broaden their overview of the relevant research field.

Während ihres Semesters an einer Universität im Ausland können Studierende je nach Modulwahl ihr Verständnis für spezifische Themen des jeweiligen Fachs vertiefen.

Knowledge Understanding

Through the semester abroad, students are able to reflect on how approaches to knowledge and subject matter vary according to the cultural context of study

Application and Transfer

Students can draw connections between their previous coursework and the modules they complete abroad, applying knowledge and skills across cultural and institutional contexts.

Communication and Cooperation

Students can communicate with an expert audience about their subject matter using the technical language and taking cultural contexts into account.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

Students come to understand themselves as members of a global community of researchers and practitioners collectively working on the challenges their specific research field.
