Brief description

Students will experience a change of perspective, looking at the planning and construction of public open spaces from the perspective of a green space authority and therefore a client. In addition to insights into the role of municipal green space authorities, their particular relevance to liveable cities will be presented and the responsibilities of the green sector will be outlined, from participation in urban land-use planning to the maintenance of municipal green spaces.
The module uses practical case studies to illustrate the services provided by landscape architects/landscape engineers working in municipal administration, planning public open spaces themselves, contracting out planning and construction services to offices and companies, and supervising construction and supplementary work. The focus of the module is on the presentation of elementary interrelationships for the management of complex planning and construction projects in the green sector.
The complex interlocking of decision-making processes between different actors and stakeholders within a municipal administration is a particular challenge. As trustees of municipal green spaces, green space managers are particularly concerned with maintaining and improving the quality of green spaces as local recreation areas. This includes the planning and maintenance of playgrounds and sports facilities, parks and green areas, as well as the future-oriented redesign of cemeteries.
The overarching goal of developing the green-blue infrastructure relevant to the urban climate and protecting it from avoidable damage during the planning and construction process is becoming increasingly important today. the consideration of tree protection during construction supervision, particularly in the context of building, road, and pipeline construction projects.
