Brief description

Plant breeding activities in horticulture and agriculture are the basis for the development of new or improved plant varieties. Fundamental to understanding general breeding techniques and breeding methods are biological mechanisms from the fields of floral biology, reproductive biology, and genetics. Plant breeding also includes "genome editing" genetic engineering, which will be critically discussed and evaluated.

Remark on the assessment methods

The standard type of examination is the portfolio (in case of deviation, one of the alternative examination types mentioned will be selected by the examiner and announced at the beginning of the course)

Exam duration and scope

standard portfolio: presentation (max. 40 points) + written exam (60 min., max. 60 points) 

alternative written exam, 2 hours

alternative Portfolio: E-exam (30 min., max. 25 Points)+ E-exam (30 min., max. 25 p.) + written exam (60 min., max. 50p.)

Recommended prior knowledge

Knowledge of plant biology, genetics and molecular biology is recommended
