Content
  • The rating of soil quality for plant growth and also possible disturbances of the soil functions is an important requirement for an ideal use of soil as a standard for horticultural production. Knowledge about possible disturbances is essential for soil rating and improvement measures for soil.
  • Erosion, soil compaction, contaminations
  • Soil melioration
  • Evaluation of a field soil quality based on analytical measuring methods from the fields of soil physics, soil chemistry and soil biology
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge Broadening
Students have a broad and integrated knowledge about protection and possible pollution of soil. They are aware of the theory and practice of important soil physical, soil chemical and soil biological laboratory methods and are able to assess the application, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of these methods.
Knowledge Deepening
The students are in command of special knowledge of a location where they applied in group work a laboratory process. They are able to assess the results with regard to the usage as horticultural production site.
Instrumental Skills and Competences
Students apply a number of standard and special methods to determine and evaluate soil quality.
Communicative Skills and Competences
The students present their results in a report and a presentation.
Systemic Skills and Competences
