Brief description

The module "Energy Economics" focuses on a comprehensive understanding of regulation and profitability analysis in the energy sector.  This module provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to evaluate complex interrelationships in the energy sector and energy markets. They learn how to carry out economic analyses and assessments for energy systems and how economic factors can be integrated into the planning and implementation of energy technologies.

Teaching and learning outcomes

  1. Fundamentals of the energy industry: Understanding the economic and political factors that shape the energy sector.
  2. Investment appraisal in the energy industry: Learning techniques and methods for carrying out investment appraisals specifically in the energy sector, including the consideration of risks and uncertainties.
  3. Functioning and structure of electricity markets: Examining the structure and functioning of electricity markets, including different market models and their effects.
  4. Analysis and implementation of trading strategies and procurement strategies in the energy market: Development and implementation of strategies for trading energy products, based on a sound analysis of market trends and dynamics.
