Recommended prior knowledge

- Fundamentals of electrical engineering for direct and alternating current (single-phase and multi-phase systems)

- Structure and function of components in electrical power supply networks (in particular generators, transformers, overhead lines, cables and compensation equipment)

- Structure and function of power electronics components for electrical power supply (rectifiers, inverters, converters)

- System operation of AC power grids (in particular transmission of active power, significance of reactive power for voltage maintenance, fundamentals of power/frequency control in interconnected systems and control area responsibility)

- Supersynchronous and subsynchronous voltage quality in AC grids (harmonics, flicker)

- Structure and function of HVDC interconnectors
