Brief description

In modern sustainable powertrains, planetary gears play a major role because of their high power density, small space requirements and good efficiency. They are often used for automotive drives and wind turbines. For very small drives for adjustment devices in the furniture industry, medical technology and automotive industry worm and helical gearboxes are used. The module illuminates these transmission types, which play a major role in particular for the electrification of society.

Teaching and learning outcomes

1. Planetary gears
1.1 simple Planetary gears with linear transmission function
1.2 multi-stage Planetary gears

2. Helical and worm gearboxes
2.1 Helical gears
2.2 ZI worm gears
2.3 Worm gear with globoid worm

Knowledge Broadening

Building on the knowledge of evolvent gears, the student further expands his knowledge of other gear geometries.

Knowledge deepening

The students can understand and analyze the application of spur gears in more complex contexts.

Knowledge Understanding

Students can verify and question different concepts in the context of the powertrain.

Application and Transfer

The students design a gear box consisting of concepts, design and digital model.

Communication and Cooperation

Students work in groups to develop solutions to scientific problems and present the results with the help of informative documents.
