Brief description

The application of scientific methods and findings to solve complex problems is one of the key qualifications of engineers. To this end, a connection between science and practice is to be established on the basis of a specific project. Students apply a research or professional practice-oriented approach and project structure. As a rule, they carry out the scientific practice project in a training center (e.g. research institution, company).

Teaching and learning outcomes

  1. Definition of the field of investigation
  2. Literature and patent research
  3. Definition of the scientific approach
  4. Application of scientific findings and methods to the specific problem
  5. Documentation of the results
  6. Presentation of project results
  7. Participation in a project during the project week

Overall workload

The total workload for the module is 450 hours (see also "ECTS credit points and grading").

Recommended prior knowledge

Competencies from the Bachelor's program.

Knowledge Broadening

Students are able to work on a task from professional practice in a methodically structured manner within a limited time frame.

Knowledge deepening

Students can quickly familiarize themselves with a new professional task at an academic level and independently deepen their knowledge in a specific area.

Knowledge Understanding

Students are able to place scientific information and practical professional concepts in a professional context and reflect on them critically.

Application and Transfer

Students use standard and advanced procedures and methods learned during their studies to process, present and evaluate information and data in a structured manner. They use the information gained to contribute to result-oriented solutions to practical professional issues.

Academic Innovation

Students can use methods and procedures learned during their studies to systematically work on and solve selected problems in professional practice.

Communication and Cooperation

Students can give formal and informal presentations on the topic they are working on, discuss their results in the work team and contribute to the solution of tasks.

Academic Self-Conception / Professionalism

Students can adequately assess their individual qualification profile with regard to competencies relevant to successful study. They recognize the influence of their professional activities and reflect on their personal responsibility.
