Brief description

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of an electrical device to function satisfactorily in its electromagnetic environment without inadmissibly influencing this environment, which also includes other devices. The module deals with all modes of action of electromagnetic coupling and derives remedial measures from the mechanisms of action. In addition, the current state of knowledge on the influence of electromagnetic fields on humans and animals is presented and discussed.

Teaching and learning outcomes

  1. Introduction to the subject area
  2. Interference sources and disturbance variables
  3. Coupling mechanisms
  4. Measures for interference suppression
  5. Legal and normative regulations
  6. EMC-compliant planning and development
  7. Interference immunity tests
  8. Emission measurements
  9. System examples
