The professorship in “Nursing Science” is designated as a permanent full-time professorship within the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences. Building on their own nursing-related background, the future incumbent is to represent research, teaching and transfer in the field of nursing science and, if applicable, in midwifery science. Consequently, the professorship is intended to complement and expand the existing key areas of research, teaching and transfer activities of the “Nursing and Midwifery Science” department, as well as to make a nursing science-based contribution to intensifying and advancing the profile-creating “Application Relevance in Health Care” at the Faculty of Business Management and Social Sciences.

With regard to teaching, the future incumbent will primarily represent course content related to practical learning, transfer of nursing and midwifery science knowledge into practice, leadership and management in outpatient and inpatient facilities of long-term care, project development in international and national practice, models of theory-practice transfer, nursing and midwifery science as well as nursing management-related content of digitalisation in the health care system in the Bachelor’s degree programmes in Nursing (Dual) and Midwifery Science. Additional core teaching areas include advanced nursing and midwifery care organisation and health services research in the extra-occupational and/or continuing education programmes in Nursing Science, Nursing Management and Midwifery, as well as the interdisciplinary Master’s programme HELPP – Health Services Research and Healthcare Organisation.

For the advertised professorship, these criteria are specified as follows in accordance with Section 25(1) NHG:

  • The future incumbent is expected to have a university degree in one of the following disciplines: Nursing Science, Nursing Education, Nursing Management or a comparable health science or social science degree programme.
  • The future incumbent is expected to have a particular aptitude for in-depth and independent academic work, usually demonstrated by an above-average doctorate related to nursing science. Where applicable, the candidate may also provide evidence of relevant achievements equivalent to a doctorate.
  • The candidate’s professional experience (five years of professional practice, of which at least three years must have been outside the university setting) is required to be demonstrably relevant to the content and tasks involved in the context of the professorship. Evidence must also be provided of the candidate’s exceptional achievements in their career.
  • The future incumbent will focus on developing our students, transferring knowledge and demonstrating enthusiasm for the distinctive features of the subject (pedagogical-didactic aptitude with a high degree of application orientation). Appropriate teaching experience – preferably with students – must therefore be demonstrated.

The successful candidate is also expected to have:

  • International experience in the professional field or in the context of their academic qualification
  • The ability to deliver classes in English
  • A licence to practise in a nursing profession

Ideally, the incumbent will also have the following skills:

  • A good knowledge of theory development in nursing as well as health services research or healthcare organisation in long-term care
  • Experience with interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary cooperation
  • Experience in integrating online components into teaching
  • A cooperative management style towards students and employees
  • Gender and diversity competence
  • Intercultural experience in an international environment
