Whether you already have extensive teaching experience or would like to take your first steps in this field, Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences offers you a range of opportunities to gain valuable teaching experience and hone your didactic skills.
Gaining teaching experience is an important step on the path to becoming a professor at a university of applied sciences (UAS) and is one of the recruitment requirements for a professorship. Teaching assignments at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences enable external individuals to pass on their knowledge to students and to establish practical relevance. Lecturers combine theory and practice, bringing real-world experience and diverse perspectives to the classroom. This helps students prepare for the world of work and provides valuable networking opportunities. As a result, lecturers make an important contribution to practice-based, application-oriented teaching at our university.
Teaching assignments are carried out within the framework of a legal relationship under public law (independent employment relationship). In addition to teaching courses, lecturers’ duties typically include related activities such as course preparation and follow-up, exam conduct, and participation in internal conferences and meetings.
There are several ways to obtain a teaching assignment at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences:
- Unsolicited applications: Recently, it has become possible to submit an unsolicited application for a teaching assignment using our form (details here). You can state your professional skills and experience, as well as your interest in obtaining a teaching assignment at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. This type of unsolicited application makes it easier for those responsible to assess your expertise and identify appropriate teaching assignments.
- Direct contact: Teaching assignments are awarded in different ways depending on the faculty. If you already know a contact person in a faculty that matches your field of expertise, you can express your interest directly to them.
A teaching assignment may be given to anyone who possesses the professional qualifications and pedagogical aptitude required for the teaching position, usually demonstrated by experience in teaching or training. If you have no teaching experience, our teaching mentoring program Try it! Lehre is a great way to get started.
Lecturers carry out the tasks assigned to them independently. They are responsible for designing the content and methodology of their courses in accordance with the specifications in the teaching assignment, taking into account the examination and study regulations.
In addition to teaching courses, the tasks of lecturers include all associated activities, such as preparing and following up on courses, preparing, accepting and correcting examinations and participating in meetings. This must be taken into account in the expected workload.
