  • Construction of geographic information systems (vector and grid data, cartographic principles, data quality, georeferencing)
  • Practical dealing with a GIS
  • GIS-based pedological evaluation process
  • Action field of the professional field soil
  • Portrayal of research intentions
  • Organisation, leading and moderation of a special event about scientific short reports (abstract, overview of the day)
Learning Outcomes

Knowledge Broadening
The students know about the main theoretical principles of geographic information systems and about currently available digital soil information. They know about most of the functionality of a GIS (e.g. ArcGIS) and they are able to work with it practically. The students know about different work fields and personalities from the professional field soil protection.
Knowledge Deepening
The students learn in what way the theoretical knowledge from class gets implemented and reinforced in a concrete working and research intent.
Instrumental Skills and Competences
The students are able to implement evaluation processes, which are based on digital soil information, practically into the GIS. They are able to use the functionality of digital presentation methods.
Communicative Skills and Competences
The students are able to communicate professionally with peers, experienced colleagues and specialists. They are able to present specific topics in front of an expert audience in form of a formal presentation.
Systemic Skills and Competences
The students apply branch-specific sills while dealing with GIS, in order to work on tasks from the field of soil protection. The students are able to select and invite technical lecturers and they are able to develop ideas for concepts of technical communication.
