2021/2022 academic year
The further training program, the work in the peer support teams and the networking meetings are the integral parts of Mentoring.INTERKULT. Participation in the workshops and active involvement in the peer support teams is mandatory for all mentees.
Here you will find further information on all events of the 2021/2022 academic year's Mentoring.INTERKULT.
The festive kick-off event takes place annually. After an official welcome and a presentation of the mentoring program, the previous year participants will be said goodbye with a certificate. The experiences from the last round will be shared and the new mentees and mentors will introduce themselves. Afterwards, the respective tandems will get to know each other for the first time during the matching. This encounter marks the beginning of the one-year one-to-one mentoring relationship.
Introductory workshop on November 13, 2021
In this workshop, the students reflect on their expectations and wishes towards the program and prepare for their role as mentees. They also discuss their tasks and goals in the peer support teams. Then the peer support teams are assembled, in which the mentees support each other during the one-year program.
Job application training I & II on December 16, 2021 & on April 7, 2022
The application training helps the mentees to familiarize themselves with the application process on the German job market. This includes the creation of professional application documents, their own presence on XING or LinkedIn and support in preparing for future job interviews. The mentees also gain insight into the regional job market and contacts with potential employers.
Empowerment on March 11 & 12, 2022
International applicants with or without refugee background face particular challenges on the German job market, which is characterized by social power differences. This workshop is intended to provide mentees with a setting in which to explore important strategies for empowerment. They will receive impulses on how their own potential and resources for empowerment can be utilized, especially for the transition into employment. This workshop is taking place online.
Confident demeanor and self-presentation on June 2 & 3, 2022
In this one-day workshop, the mentees find out how they can use their body language, facial expressions and gestures in a targeted manner to present themselves and their strengths with self-confidence. Training in challenging interview situations prepares you for a (self-)confident demeanor in job interviews and in working life. This workshop is expected to take place in person.
Job application training III on July 8, 2022
Professional application photos are important in order to leave a lasting impression with the application. For this reason, the mentees take part in a photo shooting during the job application Training III and receive individual application photos tailored to their personalities. The photo shooting is taking place in presence.
On July 5, 2022, a one-hour information event (online) will take place. Here, the trainer will convey the extent to which more than half of the signals we send out are non-verbal, i.e. a visual information. The mentees familiarize themselves with the body signals that are crucial for a confident appearance and prepare for the photo shooting session.
Final workshop on October 12, 2022
In the final workshop, the mentees reflect upon their experiences and lessons learned in the mentoring relationship, the workshops and the peer support teams. Past developments, successes achieved and future goals should be put down in writing.
All mentees and mentors get together one last time at the closing ceremony. The mentees receive their certificates and officially finish the program.
The networking get-togethers accompany the mentees throughout the entire program and take place approximately every six to eight weeks. In each meeting, there is a focus-topic, which is introduced in the form of inputs or talks, which then serve as a basis for discussion. During these meetings, the mentees engage in conversation with one another and get to know each other as a group.
During the one-year program, the mentees work together in so-called "peer support teams". The peer support teams support each other to achieve their goals. These may be, for example, individual goals for the completion of studies or for starting a career. The peer support teams work in a self-organized manner and are accompanied and supported by the coordinators if necessary.
The peer support teams will be formed at the introductory workshop on November 13, 2021. Participation in the workshop is mandatory for all mentees. During the workshop, expectations and wishes will be queried and rules for cooperation will be defined. At the start of the one-year collaboration, the project coordinators will supervise a meeting of the peer support teams in November 2021. Afterwards, the peer support teams will coordinate their monthly meetings autonomously.

Confident demeanor and self-presentation on July 27 & 28, 2021
In this workshop, mentees find out how they can use their potential for their career start and planning. For this purpose, they first reflect on their own abilities, strengths, weaknesses and compatible career aspirations. Afterwards the mentees learn to present themselves and their strengths with confidence (e.g. in job interviews) in order to get a feeling for their own "value" on the job market.

As part of Mentoring.INTERKULT, the mentees not only work in one-to-one mentoring with their mentors, but also in a peer support team with other participants in the program. A peer support team is a fixed group consisting of 4-5 mentees. They support each other in achieving their career planning goals. In the small groups, the individual goals, questions and experiences of each member are addressed. The peer support team provides impulses to promote the achievement of goals. Over the course of the one-year program, the peer support teams work in a solution- and goal-oriented manner - the focus is not on the problem but on the solution! The peer support teams organize themselves independently by working out group rules and sticking to a structured process. The meetings take place about once a month and as needed. All topics are brought up by the members themselves. Respectful and appreciative interaction in the group is important. No hierarchical structure among the mentees is desired here - every member has equal rights and contributes to the group discussions. The program coordinator supports the peer support teams with helpful information and accompanies the initial phase of the cooperation.
